This weekend, the strongest men (and women) in North America showed up and threw down for the Giants Live: North American Open Championships. Here are the highlights from the two action-packed days.

SATURDAY: Official Strongman Games

If you didn't know Adam Derks before, you do now. He finished the weekend with the North American deadlift champion title by pulling 905 pounds. He was invited to compete Sunday as part of Giants Live, but declined the invite.

"I don't want to go into a WSM qualifier beat up from Saturday," he said. "I want to come in at 100%."

Saturday also featured the North American Log Championships. Sean Demarinis, Rob Kearney, and Brian Fletcher all tied for the heaviest log press of the day with 400-pound totals.

Ken Nowicki and Lucain Herrick also qualified for Giants Live on Sunday, but did not compete. Derks, Nowicki, and Herrick are now all qualified to compete at a a different Giants Live event of their choosing to earn a spot at WSM.

While a lot of focus was on the heavyweights fighting to earn Giants Live qualifier spots, the top three men in the 105kg, 90kg, and 80kg divisions earned spots at the 2016 World's Strongest Man™. The top three masters punched their ticket to World's Strongest Master, and the top three women punched theirs to World's Strongest Woman—see who made it.

SUNDAY: Giants Live North American Championships

The heat and humidity were unforgiving, and even put veteran strongmen to the test. The top three places bounced around between competitors, but at the end of the day, Nick Best, Mark Felix, and Derek Devaughn secured their spots to the 2016 World's Strongest Man™ competition later this summer. Best is a six-time World’s Strongest Man™ Competitor, Mark Felix is a 10-time World’s Strongest Man™ competitor, and Derek Devaughn will make his rookie debut on the WSM stage.
