"With the crowd here it was a little sweeter for sure." - Brent Fikowski (when asked about an event win in the stadium)

The story going into the Climbing Snail for the men was Fraser vs. Smith. Last year we saw Mat Fraser suffer with the odd objects, and it was when Smith thrived and eventually took the lead overall from Fraser. However, differently than last year, there was no way Fraser could give up his top spot on the leaderboard because he came into it with a 142 point lead over second place (Ben Smith). He just needed to finish in the middle of the pack to hold on to a comfortable first place position. We saw that wasn't Fraser's style though, and he was clearly playing to win the event.

Cole Sager held the lead for most the event, and was well on track to beat the event record set by Marcus Filly in the first heat. He held the lead up until the third round when Brent Fikowski passed him up for the event win. Fikowski took first overall in the event, and after sliding down the leaderboard Friday, 100 points were what he needed to make his way back up. This will be his second event win. Sager ended up finishing third, behind Patrick Vellner.

Even though Fraser didn't need to finish towards the top, he still finished fifth overall. Smith finished one place ahead of Fraser, but Fraser will go into the next event still very comfortably in first.
