Just a few days before the Olympic Games were set to start, the IWF banned Russia from competing in weightlifting in Rio due to known and suspected doping violations. Not to put years of training to waste, the Russians organized some of their team members in an impromptu weightlifting meet: The “Geraklion” Grand Prix.



The start list included Russian team members Viktor Getts (77), 2015 World Champion Artem Okulov (85), Adam Maligov (94), Timur Naniev (105) as well as 2015 Worlds Silver Medalist Tima Turieva (63), Anastasiia Romanova (69), and 2015 World Champion Tatiana Kashirina (75+).
