University Nationals/Under 25 Nationals Women's Preview
This weekend's weightlifting action will be highlighted by USAW University Nationals and the first-ever USAW Under 25 Nationals commences.

Fueled by added depth to many weight classes, lifters slated as far back as eighth place could potentially finish on the podium. While every session should be viewed with enthusiasm, the sessions which should not be missed at all costs are highlighted below.

Stay tuned to FloElite from Friday, September 23, through Sunday, September 25, to follow along with our coverage.

Women's -48kg

Coming in with a substantial lead is Junior International lifter, and Junior American record holder in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total, is Megan Seegert. She recently broke the Junior American clean and jerk total records at the 2016 Junior Worlds in Tbilisi, Georgia, and has the potential to break both the Junior and University totals this weekend. She is not the only one to look out for, though as the following five lifters' all-time totals are tightly packed within 2kg: Brooke Tanacredi, Shannon McNames, Kerri Keegan, Kaitlin Montague, and Suzy Sanchez.

Women's -53kg

Fresh off the Olympic Trials, Cortney Batchelor has a commanding lead in the -53kg categories, having dropped from the -58kg category in the last year. Her numbers have not faltered, making her a force to be reckoned with. Batchelor tied the American record snatch at the Trials, and it would not be surprising if she were to take an attempt at the record outright this weekend.  Following her are 2016 Junior Worfld team member Jourdan Delacruz and 2015 University national champion Kaija Bramwell.

Women's -58kg

Leading the pack in the -58kg class is 2016 bronze medalist Jordan Weichers, followed by Stephanie Lemmen, who competed at the Rio Test Event, as well as finishing fourth behind Weichers at Nationals. Danielle Roberts, who finished seventh at Nationals, will also be gunning for the podium this weekend.

Women's -63kg

Another deep field, the Women's -63kg Class reaches deep down to eighth place on the start list for who could be a potential medalist. Coming in at first is 2016 Nationals silver medalist Cecily Basques with a 4kg lead over Kristin Pope. Taylor Lumpp is seeded in third place, leading another tight pack of women with a small spread of 5kg between third and eighth place, including Hunter Elam, Janelle Shafer, Dana Paran, and Danielle Keith.

Women's -69kg

USAW superstar, Olympic Trials athlete, and multi-record holder Mattie Rogers takes the stage again to kick off her 2020 Quad with a colossal total of 239 best competition total. Rogers fans everywhere will know about her disappointment in barely missing out on the 2016 Rio Games, but don't look too deep into that, as her training has escalated to new levels in recent weeks to prepare for a long and hard road to Tokyo. Following Rogers is 2015 American Open champion Danielle Hudes and Aria Bremner.  The competition doesn't end there, as 2015 American Open silver medalist Sylvia Hoffman lurks in fifth place with a lower entry total than  Bremner and Amanda Miller, who both sit ahead of her.

Women's -75kg

As the weights increase, so does the competition, as 2016 Junior national champion Deidra Lenzsch comes in with a 5kg lead over Juliana Riotto, who also has a 5kg lead over Phoebe Ng.  The competition gets tight once again as Kaley Anderson, Sarah Johnson, Crysta Cirillo, and Nicole Lempe are close-knit for an upset at third place or higher. A big difference may appear at 5kg, but with the heavyweight categories, that could be as small as going from your first to second attempt. Every change in attempts will lead to a major change in placement.

Women's 75+kg

Finishing up the women's weightlifting, the 75+kg category is led by young veteran and 2016 national champion Marissa Klingseis with a commanding lead entry total of 247, only 10kg under her best competition total. Following Klingseis is Ali Ludwig of Waxman's Gym and Vanessa Frost.  While the spread of the competition in totals is larger, the gaps between can be filled quickly in the top women's category, so be on the lookout for big jumps in attempts from those sitting off the podium for now, like Catherine Lucas and Rebecca Walker.
