New Team Format, New Regionals: Castro Drops 2018 Info
After the 2017 CrossFit Invitational, Dave Castro came out to announce new info about the CrossFit Games season and format in the future.
Get ready for some changes to the CrossFit Games season. After the 2017 CrossFit Invitational, Dave Castro came out to announce new info about the CrossFit Games season and format in the future.
New Team Format
The new team format will be teams of four instead of teams of six. The drive behind this change, according to Castro, is to make the programming more exciting both visually and as a test for the athletes.
This will allow gyms to put together even more exciting "super teams" and also allow Castro and the Games to put together a more exciting season for the teams.
New Regionals Format
South America will have its own Regional, but only send one athlete to the Games. Canada West, West, and California will be combined into one big Regional. Europe will be broken into two Regionals: North and South. South is South Africa and the Middle East and will get four spots at the Games, North will be the Northern European countries and will get five spots at the Games.
2018 Open Season Will Be Exciting
Castro finished off by saying that the 2018 Open will be very special. None of us know what that'll mean, but we're sure it'll be painful tests of fitness from which the best advance to Regionals.
