Could 2018 Be The Most Exciting Team Competition In Games History?
The new four-person teams in the Affiliate competition at the CrossFit Games might work to make the Games significantly more exciting.
Since Dave Castro’s big announcement after the 2017 Invitational, shrinking team size from six to four members, the margin of error has significantly decreased. Teams now have to make difficult decisions on who’s staying and who’s going.
Castro said they decided to change the format to four members because they had received great feedback from the fans regarding the invitational four-member format. He also mentioned the change will make for a simpler competition and will be easier for affiliates to create a “super team”.
Although it will be more straightforward to make up a four-member team, it will also mean more affiliates will have more than one team. Teams like Invictus, Norcal, Crossfit Reebok One, and others that are already sending multiple teams to the regionals will now be sending even more. On the inverse side, we will be seeing a lot of teams that may have been held back by team members, now letting them go to get that boost they need.
With this programming change, a faster and much more exciting competition is imminent.
