The last time the University of La Verne football team had a winning season was 2015, and that was one of two in the last 20 years.

After going 0-10 during the 2024 campaign, there’s nowhere for the Leopards to go but up this year as they chase the glory they last found in 2015 with their sixth Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title.

Before that, La Verne won three consecutive championships from 1993-1995, so the Leopards definitely know how to get it done. It’s just a matter of recapturing that magic.

When the 2025 season kicks off, it’ll be under the leadership of new head coach Richard Sanchez, who was introduced in March after a nationwide search.

Sanchez previously was the head coach and associate director of athletics at Cardinal Newman High School in Santa Rose, California, but he does have a plethora of other high school and collegiate coaching experience.

He replaces Chris Krich, who was in place for 13 seasons, including the memorable 2015 campaign. He was at the helm at La Verne from 2011 until his departure in early 2025.
