If you’re a fan of fictional kingdoms, violent dynastic struggles among royal families, and knightly tournaments, you’re most likely familiar with The Game Of Thrones.

Hafthor Bjornsson was cast as “The Mountain” in the fourth season of the popular television show in August of 2013, and rightfully so. Before beginning his acting career, Bjornsson was in the fight for the title of World’s Strongest Man. In 2011, he won the ‘Strongest Man In Iceland’ competition, and the title of ‘Iceland’s Strongest Man’ just a few short days later.

After earning a wild card invitation to the 2011 World’s Strongest Man competition, Bjornsson came in 6th overall. He continued his presence in 2012 and 2013, where he placed 3rd each time. 2014 proved to be the year of his best finish, where he earned a second place finish, only falling short of Lithianian, Zydrunas Savickas.

On January 31, 2015, Bjornsson completed a feat thought impossible to the modern day man. Carrying a 32-foot long, 1,433 pound log on his shoulders, “The Monster” took five complete steps, breaking a 1,000 year old record.
