After announcing the large amount of stripped quotas due to positive doping results, the IWF Executive Board has concluded their second day of meetings at the 2016 Junior World Championships by announcing which countries will be awarded those spots and also where the 2018 Junior World Championships will take place.

The 2018 Junior World Weightlifting Championships will be held in Pyongyang, North Korea. The other cities with bids were:
USA Weightlifting's official response to the news that 2018 Junior Worlds will be in Pyongyang:
"USA Weightlifting admires the IWF’s ambition to place sport before politics. Together with our coaches, athletes, their parents and relevant authorities we will evaluate US participation in the 2018 IWF Junior World Championships in Pyongyang, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea."
