The 2017 USA Weightlifting National Championships are underway and the first day has already seen some incredible lifts and American Records.

The women set the stage for some truly incredible lifts last night starting with the 48kg class. Megan Seegert started things off strong, breaking the Junior American Record not once, but twice with her 77kg/169lb snatch!

The 53kg women continued the day with Caitlin Hogan (53) of Waxman's Gym going 4/6 to win the title of 53kg National Champion for the second consecutive year. She snatched 84kg/185lb, clean and jerked 106kg/233lb to total 190kg.

Jessica Lucero (58) set a new American Record tonight with this 116kg/255lb clean and jerk. This makes her one of the few American women to ever clean and jerk double bodyweight! She swept gold, earning her third national championship.

The men continued Day 1 with some equally strong weightlifting. John Stang (69) won the 62kg National Championship title with this 153kg/337lb clean and jerk!

Derrick Johnson won the 62kg 2017 National Championship, earning yet another title added to his already long list of achievements.

Meanwhile, Angelo Bianco (77) swept gold at the 2017 National Championships this evening to finish up Friday's full day of lifting.
