Mattie Rogers earned a bronze medal at the 2017 IWF World Championships with a 104kg snatch and 131kg clean and jerk, but her bronze medal may be upgraded to a silver due to a doping suspension for the overall silver medalist Romela Begaj (ALB).

According to Albania's Tirana Times, Begaj, who served a two-year suspension after testing positive for Stanozolol in 2014, has tested positive for the same substance and has been provisionally suspended. She has apparently also been stripped of her medals and possibly faces a lifetime ban from the sport of weightlifting.

This type of shakeup in standings isn't unheard of — especially with all the bans and loss of medals resulting from the retests of the 2008 and 2012 Olympics — but it's big news nonetheless.

Rogers helped Team USA break a years-long medal drought at the world championships with her performance, and this only adds to the importance and impressive nature of her performance.
