It's 2018 And We're Finally Benching At CrossFit Games Regionals

CrossFit has been a thing for a long time, and the CrossFit Games have been around since 2007, and we still haven't seen bench press show up at Regionals or the Games. Until now!


Dave Castro took to his Instagram to post a picture of Rogue's Monster Westside Bench and asked people is they're excited to see it at Regionals. I'm pretty sure we've seen the bench press only once before in official CrossFit competitions, and that was in the Team Series in 2014 with a 2RM bench press.

So what could the Regional athletes expect to do with the bench? There are two Girl WODs and seven Hero WODs which include the bench press.

The Girl WODs are:

Linda (aka Three Bars Of Death)

10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 reps for time:

  • 1 1/2 body-weight deadlifts
  • Body-weight bench presses
  • 3/4 body-weight cleans

Lynne

5 rounds for max reps:

  • Body-weight bench press
  • Pull-ups

The Hero workouts are:

Adambrown

2 rounds for time:

  • 295-lb. deadlifts, 24 reps
  • 24 box jumps, 24-inch box
  • 24 wall-ball shots, 20-lb. ball
  • 195-lb. bench presses, 24 reps
  • 24 box jumps, 24-inch box
  • 24 wall-ball shots, 20-lb. ball
  • 145-lb. cleans, 24 reps

Roney

4 rounds for time:

  • Run 200 meters
  • 135-lb. thrusters, 11 reps
  • Run 200 meters
  • 135-lb. push presses, 11 reps
  • Run 200 meters
  • 135-lb. bench presses, 11 reps

Coffey

For time:

  • Run 800 meters
  • 135-lb. back squats, 50 reps
  • 135-lb. bench presses, 50 reps
  • Run 800 meters
  • 135-lb. back squats, 35 reps
  • 135-lb. bench presses, 35 reps
  • Run 800 meters
  • 135-lb. back squats, 20 reps
  • 135-lb. bench presses, 20 reps
  • Run 800 meters
  • 1 muscle-up

Justin

30-20-10 reps for time:

  • Body-weight back squats
  • Body-weight bench presses
  • Strict pull-ups

JBO

AMRAP 28:

  • 115-lb. overhead squats, 9 reps
  • 15-foot legless rope climbs, beginning from seated, 1 ascent
  • 115-lb. bench presses, 12 reps

Foo

AMRAP 20:

  • 170-lb. bench presses, 13 reps

Then, complete as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes of:

  • 7 chest-to-bar pull-ups
  • 77 double-unders
  • 170-lb. squat clean thrusters, 2 reps
  • 28 sit-ups

TJ

  • 185-lb. bench presses, 10 reps
  • 10 strict pull-ups
  • 135-lb. thrusters, max set

Repeat the triplet until you have completed 100 reps of the thruster.

We could also see a max effort of some sort or a burnout set or a new and different combo including the bench press. What do you think?
