Only eight points separated fifth through eighth place at the West Regionals, and all eyes were on Cody Anderson (sixth place) and Cole Sager (ninth place).
Only eight points separated fifth through eighth place at the West Regionals, and all eyes were on Cody Anderson (sixth place) and Cole Sager (ninth place).
Both needed impressive performances to have a chance at one of the top five spots. Tyson Takasaki (eighth place) was also in need of a strong performance. Sager was first to the barbell, but Takasaki and Sager were nearly rep-for-rep through the overhead squats, and both went unbroken. It was during the row when Brent Fikowski started to pull away from the pack. Sager and Takasaki seemingly got lost in the heat through the burpee box jump-overs, but Fikowski showed there's nothing he can’t do. He broke Noah Ohlsen’s Event 6 record with a time of 10:08, and did so while walking onto the finish mat. At the end of the event, things didn’t look favorable for Sager, Takasaki, or Anderson.
